Meta's Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses are now integrated with one of its messaging services, WhatsApp, enabling its users to send text messages and make hand-free calls using the device.

The new WhatsApp integration leaked last April, suggesting that the parent firm of Facebook, Meta, is working on expanding the features of its Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses.

Meta's Ray-Ban Stories WhatsApp Integration

As per the latest news story from The Verge, the Stories glasses now boast WhatsApp support.

It should allow the owners of the Meta and Ray-Ban smart glasses to start calling their contacts hand-free on WhatsApp.

Aside from making calls, it also brings support for sending text messages on the messaging service owned by Meta. Not to mention that the new WhatsApp support on Stories also allows users to hear the messages that they received out loud.

The Chief Executive Officer of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, also teased that users of the smart glasses could soon use merely voice commands to reply to messages on either Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp.

Meta clarified that all of the calls and messages via the Stories glasses will be privately sent, thanks to its end-to-end encryption, according to a recent report by Tech Crunch.

Meta’s RayBan Stories is now integrated with WhatsApp, allowing its users to make calls and send messages. Here's how it works:

Unlike how Messenger works, the end-to-end encryption on WhatsApp prevents third parties and Meta itself from reading or listening to the conversation of its users.

Now that WhatsApp has its Ray-Ban Stories integration, Meta still vows that end-to-end encryption still lives on.

Meta Ray-Ban Stories and Facebook Messenger

The integration of WhatsApp comes after Ray-Ban Stories started supporting Facebook Messenger last year or in 2021.

The Verge reports that users of Ray-Ban Stories brought Facebook Messenger features last year, allowing them to send messages and make calls as well - similar to how the new WhatsApp integration works.

However, the WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger support on Stories are only available to a limited number of users as it only sells in a select number of countries.

It is worth noting that it leaves out countries wherein WhatsApp draws millions of users, such as Brazil and India.

To be more precise, the Meta and Ray-Ban Stories glasses are only available in countries like the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada. It also includes other destinations, such as Australia, Spain, Italy, Ireland, France, Belgium, and Austria.
