Meta released its human rights report for the world to see and know about its actions on the platform, especially after its many issues that involved disputes on people's online usage. There were previous problems in Facebook before it rebranded to Meta, and it mostly boils down to the mental health of the public, which the company said it would change.

Fast forward to almost a year later, is Meta, the same company with just a different name?

Meta released its first Human Rights Report, which will be an annual publication by the company from now, as it aims to address many issues from within for the public's knowledge. It talks about what the company did to improve several issues and problems that it faced, especially with the many difficulties it encountered in the past.

The massive social media company also released an 83-page Human Rights report for 2020 and 2021, covering its annual take on the past years. However, a report from TechCrunch claims that Meta did not discuss any of its past issues in the report, and it is primarily a "self-congratulatory" report on the company's past months.

Not all are convinced with Meta's release regarding its human rights actions.

Meta and Human Rights on the Platform

Meta said it is going big on human rights. The company even made a newly-updated "Human Rights Policy" that will address specific issues and tackle problems in the platform. It is unknown what Meta plans to do in the future with its new claims and focus now, but it will be toward human rights, as per the company's promise.

Meta's Issues in the Past

Meta is famous for many things, from its products and online features available worldwide to its many issues that put the company on the front pages of news and the internet. In the past, a lawsuit focused on Facebook, Meta's Former name, talked about how Instagram's platform is harmful to teenagers' mental health

Facebook also faced a lawsuit before in Texas regarding the company's facial recognition issue, and it put Meta in a delicate state among the public eyes and regulators. The company allegedly violated policies on facial recognition stemming from 2010 to 2021, and it is a massive breach of its operations and people's privacy.

Nevertheless, Meta said that it had changed its ways since then and these are all detailed in the human rights report of the company.

However, it is not something that several reports believe, and that is with the claims that Meta made on its platform and company, which mostly talked about its shift to focusing on human rights. The Meta report did not venture much on their past issues and what they did to address and change them for the world now, which is a massive breach.
