Virtual Private Networks (VPN) bring a service that will help hide or change the IP and location of a person, and it helps with security online, without the hassle for the user to access different content. However, several lawmakers think these services exploit and mislead the public about their use, especially for those not well-adjusted to using the feature.
These lawmakers aim to take the case to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for a better approach to the topic.

Congresswoman Anna Eshoo and Senator Ron Wyden co-wrote a letter addressed to the FTC regarding a call to the agency to address the current issues on VPN use in the present. The lawmakers claim that not all VPN services are honest, with some being false and misleading claims in the features available on the applications.
Eshoo and Wyden said that there are deceptive practices among several VPN providers, with some going as far as selling user data to third-party companies or law enforcement entities in the world. There are several demands for the VPN now, especially as there are sensitive cases like abortion that were recently made illegal in some states.
Those seeking one using a deceptive VPN service may cause further harm.

VPN: Are They Misleading the Public in their Services?
A report by Consumer Reports, as mentioned in the lawmaker's letter, claims that some of the most famous VPN services have misrepresented their products, which may lead to a criminal offense. According to The Verge, the FTC already promised to look into these companies that share data or make it available to those that ask for it and take immediate action.
VPN and their Privacy Features
One would think that using a VPN is a guaranteed service that will protect them from online harm, trackers, hackers, and other things that they avoid on the internet. However, that is not much of the case for some companies, as there are as many as six firms that make their users vulnerable to trackers and surveillance with its use.
With that, users need to be careful in choosing the right service or application to use for their needs, especially with its massive focus on security for all. One company called PureVPN offers a quantum encryption on its service, and the company promises that it is hacking-resistant to any threat actors that aim to penetrate the feature.
Finding the right VPN is hard, and it usually takes a lot of money to test out different offers online and finally subscribe to a specific service that will suit their needs and complete the experience. However, not all are honest despite their inviting setup or protecting the public from all types of harm, with some being manipulative on their promises for all.
