You probably do your laundry once a week, but when do you actually clean your washing machine? Many homeowners tend to neglect their washing machines, which results in bad odors.
This is because your washing machine may probably have an abundance of mold and mildew already, which leaves your washing machine gunky and your clothes smelling bad.
Your washing machine needs a good scrub regularly, especially if you notice a sulfur smell.

Empty Your Washing Machine of Water.
If you notice a sulfur smell, the first thing you should do is to empty your washing machine of any water that is left in the tub. Using a wet/dry vacuum, completely dry out your washing machine.
Remove the lid from your washing machine and use a brush to gently scrub the gasket around the lid and the tub where the lid is placed. You should also use a brush to clean the inside walls of the washing machine. You can use a cleaning solution for washing machines or diluted bleach.
Use a cleaning agent that does not cause any damage to the rubber seals.
If your smell persists, you may have to replace the gasket around the lid and replace the seal. If the smell persists, you may have to replace the rubber seals and gasket.
Make Sure You Let Your Washing Machine Dry.
Sometimes, if you do not clean the inside of your washing machine soon enough, mildew and mold can grow inside the drum and cause your washing machine to smell bad.
The best way to avoid this is by letting your washing machine dry for two or three days.
During this period, you should not use your washing machine. Once cleaned, any washing machine cleaner should be laundered in the washing machine before it is used again.
When the washing machine is fully dry, you can re-start it and run it through a cycle without any clothes inside. This gets rid of the smell inside the washing machine.

Make Sure You Keep the Lid Shut.
