California's proposed bill, known as AB 2773, got its needed signatures from lawmakers of the state, seeing a 33-0 vote from the concerned politicians for its progression to soon being a law. It has passed legislation in California and awaits its signage into a law that will soon complete the bill for its enforcement in the state.

The new bill called the "California Age Appropriation Design Code" aims to change the current practices and help better social media for the young people using it in their daily consumption of online information.

Buffy Wicks, California's State Assemblywoman, said that social media platforms were not designed for children but for adults only. However, the growing case of young online users needs a change in how it presents itself to the public, focusing on designing it for their use and needs.

The bill aims to bring social media regulations that would boost protection for kids under 18, and it significantly changes how it treats cases that cause harm and danger to its users. It aims to limit the interaction of young online users with strangers on their platforms, limiting the collection of minor's data in the current setup.

Social Media Laws and Protection

Social media is a place where people may gather massive information on different topics and have significant life hacks widely available for them to use. However, it is also a place where misinformation and harmful content is present, which may harm both children and adults from their online media usage.

Due to these known harmful factors online, many laws are in place to protect online media users, which applies to different platforms. A law known as the "Kids Online Safety Act" by Senators Richard Blumenthal and Marsha Blackburn aims to introduce new legislation for social media companies to follow.

Other countries like Singapore and the EU are also looking at passing a law to protect their citizens from harmful online content.

California is also making sure that its enforcement would change a lot for the social media platforms present now, especially as freedom comes with a price and may bring significant risks for children. This law in California is still awaiting signage for its transformation as a law that will enforce among its constituents, particularly for social media companies.
