Vision Marine Technologies, a provider of electric recreational marine propulsion for OEMs, announces a historic milestone in the boating industry by breaking the 100 MPH speed barrier on an electric watercraft. A large audience attended the event in person and watched it online for the 34th year of the event.

How Vision Marine and Its Partners Set a New Record

An alliance of multiple prominent, well-known players from all over the globe had to come together to accomplish such an achievement.

Vision Marine, in partnership with Hellkat Powerboats, developed the V32, a 32-inch (9.75-meter) catamaran hull constructed to accommodate the necessary battery banks to power a pair of Vision Marine's distinctive E-MotionTM electric outboards to set new standards.

To achieve the world record, Vision Marine crafted a futuristic and aerodynamically enhanced racing shell.

The V32 was built from the ground up by the internal engineering team at Vision Marine and Shaun Torrente of Shaun Torrente Racing ("STR"), who was also responsible for setting up and testing the V32 in Florida for several months, as per Interesting Engineering's report.

Vision Marine developed a specifically constructed battery pack to bolster the boat along with Octillion Power Systems, who also acted as the race's sponsor. While Pat Weissman of Weissman Marine designed the, outdrives and Nextfour Solutions improved the boat's monitoring systems.

New World Record Speed

Shaun Torrente, a five-time UIM champion and the current F1 H20 World Champion, raced the V32 on August 28 at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, in front of more than 100,000 people.

He set a new world record speed of 109 MPH on Jaguar's lightweight Vector V20E, surpassing the previous record of 88.6 MPH (144 kph).

"This 109 MPH (175 kph) record is groundbreaking, to say the least, and will surely put Vision Marine and its E-Motion technology in the boating world hall of fame," Vision Marine CEO and co-founder Alex Mongeon said in a statement.

"We are here today to instill a new legacy by proving once again that a transition to electric power in the marine industry is at arm's reach. We are this much closer to eliminating the colossal carbon footprint our planet is experiencing due to continued usage of ICE engines."

According to Xavier Montagne, CTO and COO of Vision Marine, the outcomes from this past weekend's race are just the beginning. He added that this achievement was the result of many years of close technical cooperation with their European and American partners.

More world records are now anticipated to follow as Vision Marine boosts the production of its outboard electric motors and batteries so they can be utilized in more boats.
