AirPods Pro 2 ear tips are apparently incompatible with its older sibling, the first-generation Apple high-end wireless earbuds.
Although the original AirPods Pro and the second generation look seemingly entirely the same from afar, their ear tips slightly vary.

AirPods Pro 2 Ear Tips Are Incompatible With Older Iteration
As per the latest report by Mac Rumors, Apple has confirmed that the new silicone ear tips that the tech giant introduced in the all-new AirPods Pro (second generation) are incompatible with its predecessor.
The iPhone maker published a new support document to explain why the new ear tips exclusively work for the new AirPods Pro.
Given that, if you own an older AirPods Pro and wanted to replace its ear tips with the new silicone pair from the second-generation earbuds, it might not be the best thing to do.
Mac Rumors notes in its report that the ear tips for the varying AirPods Pro generations actually fit with each other.
Apple Explains Why
So it turns out that if AirPods users try to fit the new ear tips to the older high-end wireless earbuds, it would all seem compatible. However, Apple claims otherwise.
The new support page of Apple explains that the new AirPods Pro ear tips have less dense mesh than the first generation. The renowned tech giant notes in its newly published document that the original AirPods Pro has "noticeably denser mesh."
The Cupertino giant further points out that the "ear tips have been designed specifically for their AirPods Pro generation, to deliver the highest-fidelity audio experience."
And as such, the mesh design on the newer ear tips is only compatible with the audio technology of the second-generation release.
Mac Rumors adds that the new ear tips now come with an extra small (XS) size, along with the small, medium, and large, which the first-gen has.
It is worth noting that the iPhone maker sells the two varying AirPods Pro ear tips at the same price. Regardless of which generation, they retail at the Apple online store to the tune of $7.99.

According to the recent review by The Verge, the AirPods Pro 2 rocks overall better sound quality than its predecessor. Not to mention that Apple has also refined its noise cancellation feature.
