Ford Mustang Mach-E is the Department of Homeland Security's first-ever electric vehicle (EV) as the all-electric SUV joins its massive fleet.

In this day and age, wherein EVs have become more popular, it isn't surprising to see law enforcement agencies also follow the trend. And as such, Homeland Security got its hands on its first-ever all-electric car.

HALEWOOD, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 18: President of Ford Europe Stuart Rowley poses with a Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle at the transmission assembly line at Ford Halewood after Ford announced a 230 GBP investment on October 18, 2021 in Halewood, England. Ford Mustang Mach-E Joins Homeland Security Fleet

As per the latest report by Inside EVs, Homeland Security announced that it chose the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV as its first electric car.

The EV is joining thousands of other Ford vehicles in its fleet as the agency looks to embrace electrified vehicles.

Homeland Security notes that it has a massive fleet of about 50,000 cars, which are mostly law enforcement vehicles, reaching roughly 60%. It also notes that it is "the third largest federal agency" and "largest law enforcement agency." Given that, it sure needs thousands of vehicles.

According to recent news from Teslarati, "the third largest federal agency" has been using the vehicles of the Blue Oval in its fleet. But all of them are fuel-powered until the new Mach-E arrives.

Homeland Security EV Adoption

This time, it looks like Homeland Security is sticking to the American carmaker as it starts its EV adoption.

Teslarati notes in its report that Homeland Security now attempts to further cut its costs. And at the same time, it also looks to minimize its CO2 emissions. And the best route to do so is to start embracing more EVs in its fleet.

The department says that it is now ramping up its EV adoption. It also says in a recent statement that they "are excited to see how this and other EVs perform for our mission."

InsideEVs highlights in its report that it is not the first instance that a law enforcement agency in the US included a Mustang Mach-E.

In fact, none other than the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also sports the all-electric SUV. Not to mention that the Mach-E also made it to the fleet of various police departments across the country.

How About Tesla Model Y?

However, it is to note that some police agencies have opted to choose other EV models as they go about their fleet electrification. And some of the go-to choices are the Tesla Model Y and another Ford EV, the F-150 Lightning.

But besides these two, it looks like Mach-E is also a favorable choice.
