MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - SEPTEMBER 01: James "Yuki" Stanton of Order (2nd left) in action during the Overwatch Contenders final during the Melbourne Esports Open at Rod Laver Arena on September 01, 2019 in Melbourne, Australia.

This update will include voice chat recording as proof to issue bans based on transcribed data. As indicated in their blog post, Overwatch 2 continues to level up its system to see bad behavior and cheating with this upcoming update.

Blizzard added, "This system relies on players reporting disruptive behavior as soon as they encounter it in game because we do not store voice chat data long term,"

This means gamers should report a certain player during a game for them to detect, catch, and prevent these players at their best chance. These reports will matter as it is one of the most effective methods in finding toxic behaviors as fast as they can.

As per the company, the transcribed data will not be kept for long as it will be removed from the text files within 30 days of their creation. While the audio files will be deleted immediately once it is transcribed.

Valorant's Voice Chat Recording

The voice chat recording is not new to the gaming scene, as Valorant was the first game to embrace this technology with the same sentiments as Overwatch 2.

Valorant began its own "voice evaluation" system last July. Although this news concerned some players regarding corporate intrusion and data collection, no negative impacts were experienced by the players and the game itself to this new testing.

The game also recently announced its expansion on hunting disruptive behavior in-games, as it was stated on their patch notes. Valorant said, "We've introduced a feature that will show at the end of game screen, which players have been detected for engaging in disruptive gameplay-based behaviour."

Phone Numbers for Accounts

Aside from the plans to add voice chat recordings, Blizzard also announced on the same day its goal of protecting gamers from problems and threats.

Players will need to verify their phone numbers through the system to ensure their best experience in the game. This will prevent cheaters and spam players from roaming around the game with disruptive behavior during gameplay.

As per Blizzard, the same phone numbers cannot be used to create several accounts at the same time to prevent players on creating multiple accounts. They added, "A phone number can only be used once when making a new account, and certain types of numbers, including pre-paid and VOIP, cannot be used for SMS Protect."
