WUHAN, CHINA - SEPTEMBER 16: (CHINA OUT) New Apple iPhone 14's are put on display at an Apple store on September 16,2022 in Wuhan. Hubei, China.

Apple iPhone Reverse Wireless Charging?

As per the latest report by Phone Arena, Apple has recently introduced the new iPhone series, and its global launch was still somewhat well-received by consumers.

However, it is worth noting that the new iPhone 14 lineup still looks similar to its predecessor, the iPhone 13. That said, Apple has not changed much from its latest flagship smartphone.

One of the noticeable upgrades in the latest iPhone is the new Dynamic Island. Apple has finally ditched the notch in its higher-end smartphone offerings, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. These two new mobile devices now sport a pill-shaped camera module, which houses a couple of sensors and the selfie shooter.

But other than performance refinements, there is not much to talk about.

Meanwhile, it is to note that the iPhone 13 was initially rumored to start offering reverse wireless charging, but it never actually materialized. And even its successor, the iPhone 14 series, did not gain such a new feature.

However, this time, it looks like Apple is gearing up to start producing iPhone with a new wireless charging capability.

WUHAN, CHINA - MAY 21: Customers interact with Apple products at the new Apple retail store at Wuhan International Plaza on May 21, 2022 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. According to local media reports, this is the first Apple store to open in Wuhan, and the 44th store in mainland China.

The recent patent filing of Apple at the United States Patent & Trademark Office reveals that the tech juggernaut is working on a new reverse charging option on iPhones.

Although it does not necessarily mean that it would soon see the light of day, it still hints that it might arrive in future iPhones. But do take it with a grain of salt. Some patent filings never actually make it to production.

The new patent filing of the iPhone maker discloses how its wireless reverse charging works. Essentially, it allows iPhones to charge another Apple phone through its back. Not to mention it is also set to support other Cupertino products, such as an Apple Watch or AirPods.

The patent application at the US Patent & Trademark Office revealed that the sole inventor of reverse charging for the iPhone is none other than the Director of Engineering at Apple, Adam Schwartz.
