Tesla recently updated their in-car energy app for users to be able to compare between real energy use and projected range. It also provides range advice to get closer to the optimal range, as reported by Electrek.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JANUARY 30: A tesla vehicle is displayed in a Manhattan dealership on January 30, 2020 in New York City.

There are a lot of factors that can impact the vehicle's efficiency on the road, and it is difficult to determine how far it can go on a full battery pack or tank of gas.

When a user enters a destination in the navigation system, Tesla will provide the driver with the expected range remaining at the destination. However, most Tesla drivers are aware that, for the most part, it will be much lower than the estimate.

The new app will deliver a more detailed description of how and when drivers deviate from the projected range. It will also provide drivers with range tips that bring them closer to the optimal range projection. Additionally, it now breaks down energy consumed in "miles" from more sources, such as sentry mode and screen time.

With this new information, drivers can gauge where the vehicle's energy is going other than propulsion. In turn, this will help Tesla owners make better decisions to optimize for a range instead of comfort when necessary.

A Continuous Effort to Save Energy on a Trip

Tesla has been a leader in efficiency, and this isn't the first time they made improvements to make drivers save more energy on every trip they make on the vehicle. In 2018, the EV maker added more environmental factors, like weather, and elevation changes, among others.

Although these factors helped, they weren't that accurate.

Earlier this year, the company put a renewed focus on range prediction via "crosswind, headwind, humidity, and ambient temperature" in their software update. Then in July, they released a new update that added more factors in its range calculations, such as tire pressure and phone charging.

This new update is another effort by the California-based company to empower its users to make informed decisions regarding vehicle range and energy consumption. It also comes at a time when the company plans to have a higher volume of its vehicles in production, hopefully increasing its delivery numbers.

With all of the changes Tesla has implemented in the past 12 months, it is showing the industry that its commitment to improving its products is continuous. Their main target is to provide the most accurate information about the vehicle to their drivers to budget their trips easily.

In the long run, these improvements will also benefit the company. The more accurate the information is, the more confident the company can assure its customers that they will make it to their destination.
