Users from Twitter will soon be able to control their mentions and replies, which is a good thing, especially if a certain user experiences abuse through this feature.

LONDON, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 07: In this photo illustration, The Twitter logo is displayed on a mobile device as the company announced it's initial public offering and debut on the New York Stock Exchange on November 7, 2013 in London, England. Twitter went public on the NYSE opening at USD 26 per share, valuing the company's worth at an estimated USD 18 billion.

Limit Replies and Mentions

Twitter is currently testing a new feature for users to have the ability to control their own mentions and replies based on a report from The Verge. This feature is more than preventing users from interacting with their friends or idols. It also protects the users from bullying and harassment.

One of the first people who noticed the update was Privacy Researcher and Engineer Jane Manchun. She stated that Twitter is currently working with this feature where users will be able to block the mentions entirely or limit them to their following list.

Twitter also did the same update last 2020, where users can narrow down the list of people who can interact with them on the platform, as they introduced the feature that lets users limit their replies to a certain tweet. Users can limit their tweets to people who they follow or people that they have mentioned.

Twitter's Response

According to Engadget, Twitter Privacy Designer Dominic Camozzi confirmed the new feature in a tweet and stated that the company is soliciting feedback from the community. However, the tweet is now deleted by Camozzi.

Other "Private" Features

Aside from this, Twitter also introduced the feature Twitter Circle, which is very similar to Instagram's 'Close Friends' feature. This is a feature where certain tweets can only be viewed by up to 150 people. It was called 'Select People' during its testing in May. If a certain person was included in Circle, they have no power to retweet and share the tweet to another person outside the community. But Twitter reminds that even this was implemented, people can still re-share your private content by capturing the tweet with a screenshot. Aside from this, Twitter also introduced Super Follows last year, which is a feature where people can earn monthly revenue through building their own subscription content. Through this, the users and their subscribers may interact in a more intimate setting.

Twitter stated on their blog that "Through Super Follows, people can set a monthly subscription of $2.99, $4.99 or $9.99 a month to monetize bonus, "behind-the-scenes" content for their most engaged followers on Twitter. And followers get extra special access to their unfiltered thoughts, early previews, and subscriber-only conversations from their favorite accounts."
