One of these ways is to cancel free meals. The Twitter CEO, Elon Musk, said he would use new cost-cutting measures, as noted in an article by Business Insider, to help the company minimize expenses.

Twitter will no longer be serving free lunch at its San Francisco headquarters. A few days ago, the announcement was made that Elon Musk planned to make Twitter employees pay for lunch at the cafeteria. It was estimated that the cost of lunch over the past month was $400.

Due to every lunch costing the company $400, the annual food service cost at the San Francisco headquarters shot up to around $13 million. When critics said that Elon Musk planned to "starve" employees, Musk replied.

In a tweet saying that employees should learn to cook and sharing that Musk planned to starve employees, Musk replied that the situation was bizarre. Musk said that given no one came to the office, the estimated cost per lunch served is $400 over the past 12 months.

 

Former Twitter Employee Said the Daily Meals Cost About $20 to $25 Per Person

According to the story by Giz China, he highlighted that it was bizarre that almost nobody came to the office. One former Twitter employee was mad about the decisions made by Elon Musk at the Twitter headquarters.

Tracy Hawkins, a former Twitter employee, said that daily meals cost about $20 to $25 per person. There was a disagreement between Hawkins and Musk regarding employee occupancy at the office.

Musk Said Twitter Peak Occupancy Rate was 25% but Former Employee Said It was Up to 50%

Musk said that the peak occupancy rate for Twitter employees was 25%, averaging at just 10%, but Hawkins disputed, saying the average office occupancy rate was between 20% and 50%. Other Twitter employees decided to join the discussion.

Some of the employees voiced out that Elon Musk's decision is destroying the company's work culture. The employees criticized the free lunch program of Twitter, saying that the lunches were not a normal right but a privilege.

Musk Said He Plans to Cancel Remote Work and Will Require Employees at the Office for At Least 40 Hours a Week

Other plans regarding Musk's cost-cutting methods remain unsure but the free lunch program removed will help the company save a couple of millions.
