Tesla’s EV Offering Turns Out To Be World’s Second Oldest Car Lineup

Tesla's current electric vehicle (EV) offering turns out to be the oldest lineup in the world for a carmaker.

While the EVs of the Elon Musk-owned automaker sport new features thanks to its constant software updates, its lineup is one of the world's oldest. It seems that Tesla is lagging behind the industry standards in introducing newer vehicles.

It is worth mentioning that its upcoming EVs, which include the Cybertruck, have yet to see the light of day.

Tesla Has the Second Oldest Car Lineup in the World

As per the research of Motor 1 UK, which included roughly 30 brands in various parts of the world, Tesla is offering the second oldest lineup these days.

While other carmakers are flooding the market with newer EVs from all-electric crossovers to pickup trucks, Tesla is sticking with its current lineup.

The Musk-led EV maker averaged around 7.8 years for its current all-electric lineup of vehicles. The giant firm now flaunts a total of four electric cars, and one of them first saw the shimmer of the spotlight last 2009.

Motor 1 notes that the Model S sedan debuted last March 2009. The EV maker introduced its second electric car way back in September 2015 when it launched the Model X crossover.

And in 2016, the Model 3 sedan joined the EV lineup of Tesla. And the most recent member is none other than the Model Y, which debuted last March 2019.

According to a recent report by Inside EVs, the Musk-owned firm introduced its latest vehicle roughly four years ago.

Given that, the current lineup of the giant EV maker averaged around 7.8 years, making Tesla a car maker that sports the second oldest lineup these days.

Inside EV notes in its report that the industry standard for launching new-generation vehicles is between six to eight years. But Tesla seems to be going against the tide.

However, the arrival of the Cybertruck might significantly change its ranking.

Car Makers with Oldest Car Lineup in the World

If Tesla got the second spot, which car maker reigns on top? Motor 1 says Lada has the oldest lineup nowadays.

It introduced its 4x4 way back in April 1977, and the Russian automaker still offers it today. The newest vehicle in its lineup is the Vesta, which debuted last September 2015.

So on average, its lineup is roughly 18.9 years. Tesla is in the far second, averaging at 7.8 years.
