Returnal Comes to PC

After months of leaks and rumors, Sony Interactive Entertainment finally revealed that Returnal will be the latest PlayStation exclusive to be available on PC. The game's trailer launched last December 9th, during 'The Game Awards 2022'.

This was developed by Housemarque, with the help and delicate care of Climax Studios. PlayStation Blog reported that there will be specific tweaks and upgrades for its PC launch that will offer a fluid experience for everyone.

Gamers will join Selene in Atropos, a dark and mysterious planet where she will trap in a cycle and predicament of cosmic horror scale. Aside from the storyline, the game will also feature first-person scenes that will explore a familiar house to uncover the narrative within the psyche of Selene.

System Requirements

However, the game demands so much RAM to obtain the best visuals of the game. At least an Intel i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU will be needed, with an Nvidia RTX 2070 Super or AMD RX 6700 XT GPU. WCCFTech Reported much more detailed system requirements for this game.

Minimum:

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit (version 1903)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6400 (4 core 2.7GHz) AMD Ryzen 5 1500X (4 core 3.5GHz)
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB) AMD Radeon RX 580 (8 GB)
  • Storage: 60 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: SSD Recommended

Recommended:

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit (version 1903)
  • Processor: Intel i7-8700 (6 core 3.7 GHz) AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (8 core 3.7 GHz)
  • Memory: 32 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 2070 SUPER (8 GB) AMD RX 6700 XT (12 GB)
  • Storage: 60 GB available space

Compared to other PC games that demand high graphics, the game will require a hefty amount of RAM. For instance, The Verge reported that Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, Dying Light 2, and A Plague Tale: Requiem do not recommend more than 16GB of RAM to obtain the most out of their gameplay and graphics.

Despite these, Returnal Developer Housermarque Brand Director Mikael Haveri hints at the rumored inclusion of support for both Nvidia's DLSS and AMD's FSR upscaling technology that ray-trace shadow and reflections, and unlocked framerates.

"For our PC version there will be an array of PC specific tweaks and upgrades to make sure that the experience is as fluid as possible," he stated.

After getting snubbed from the event last year, Returnal was hailed as the Best Game for BAFTA Games Awards 2022 in April. Aside from this, the game bagged three more awards, such as Best Music, Best Music and Audio, and Best Performer in a Leading Role.

During her acceptance speech, Jane Perry who bagged the Best Performer talked about her success and gratefulness to the whole organization for the given recognition in the industry. She added, "She hopes for a better future and I think given the very serious state of the world right now that we can all take inspiration from Selene."
