Ford F-150 Lightning EV Price Increases Again

As per the latest report by CarScoops, the renowned automaker has made its F-150 Lightning less affordable once again. Its website reveals that the cheapest variant of the electric pickup saw around a nine percent increase from its price tag last week.

When the F-150 Lightning debuted it only cost less than $40,000. But since then, Ford has increased its pricing a couple of times.

For instance, last August, the EV received a hike, making it retail for $48,769. Then in October, its starting price shot up to $53,769.

And now, the all-electric truck is seeing another price increase.

How Much is the F-150 Lightning Priced?

The online listing of the all-electric truck states that the F-150 Lightning EV now retails for $55,975. Given that, the increase is around $4,745 compared to its pricing in the previous week.

According to a news story by Electrek, the base price of the F-150 Lightning has seen around a $16,000 increase since its debut. To put it in perspective, it is now 40 percent more expensive than when we first saw the shimmer of the spotlight.

The Blue Oval explained to Car Scoops that the price hike of the F-150 Lightning is the "normal course of business."

Ford Motor Company unveils their new electric F-150 Lightning outside of their headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan on May 19, 2021.

But why is the electric pickup receiving these price changes? The automaker explained that it is "due to rising material costs, market factors, and ongoing supply chain constraints."

Car Scoops reports that other EV makers have increased their pricing in the past few months. For instance, the giant all-electric automaker Elon Musk owns, Tesla, also hiked the pricing of its vehicles.

Besides, giants like Tesla and Ford, smaller players are also updating the price tags of their vehicles. To be more precise, all-electric carmakers Lucid and Rivian now offer their EVs at a more expensive starting price.

It appears that the inflating cost of materials used for manufacturing electric cars is badly hitting these EV makers.

With that latest price increase of the F-150 Lightning the prices of EVs looks to be continuing the its skyrocketing trend. It remains to be seen when these zero-emission offerings will start to more affordable again.
