LG Innotek announced that the Optical Telephoto Zoom Camera Module will launch at Consumer Electronics Show 2023. This will offer true and continuous optical zoom for the next generations of its flagship phones.

Optical Telephoto Zoom Camera Module

A new telephoto zoom camera module will be revealed for LG's flagship devices at Consumer Electronics Show 2023, LG Innotek Chief Executive Officer Jeong Cheol-dong announced. Based on a report from The Verge, the company partners with Qualcomm as they this adopt new technology.

He stated, "Smartphone cameras will be evolved into the direction of enhancing the performance of optical zoom centrally on the premium smartphone."

The Optical Telephoto Zoom Camera Module is a micro component made for devices to integrate the telescopic camera functions. These are usually applied to professional devices like DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. LG proved again its position as the number one camera module company in the world.  

A normal smartphone uses image quality-degrading digital zoom to reach the focal length. But through this new component, the image detail will preserve the quality and have an overall down size at the same time, as it uses a folded-optic design or a periscope lens. 

Aside from these, LG includes optical stabilization that uses a small actuator to move lens elements from zooming. The lens covers a 4x-9x range with true optical zoom in between. But instead of including separate lenses, the design will combine the 4x and 9x to take up less space and reduce power consumption.

According to the company's press release, the demand for this module by global customers is rapidly increasing, which is why the company preoccupied the market right away to emphasize that LG is a company that focuses on the camera module business capabilities. 

But for the moving lens' capabilities of changing focal distance or set to the clean focus, LG developed the Zoom Actuator to have a clear and clean image quality in all sections between 4-9 times zoom. 

Not only does it provide accuracy to the existing component, but it also moves on high speed and durability with a much lesser consumption for its battery. The Optical Image Stabilizer is also applied with the new design method to reduce blur and shakiness by increasing the definition of the photo.

As the company works with Qualcomm Technologies, the Telephoto Zoom Camera Module will adapt to the new premium Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform. The enhancement options of the image will include Auto-Focus, Auto-Exposure, Auto-White Balance, Lens Shading Correction, and more. 

"LG Innotek will be one step ahead in introducing innovative products that provide pleasant experience and good impressions to the customers, and innovation will be provided continuously for customer value," CEO Jeong stated.

LG Innotek received the CES 2023 Innovation Award with the Optical Telephoto Camera Module, as per Cision PR Newswire.
