Fresh Ideation Food Group, a Baltimore-based food manufacturer, has issued a recall for over 400 food products that have been distributed and sold on Amtrak trains and in vending machines and other stores along the East Coast, CNET first reports.

The recall was issued due to potential listeria contamination in the products, which include bread, salads, freshly cut fruits, meat products, wraps, sandwiches, yogurts, and more.

More About the Product Recall

The FDA reports that the recall applies to products distributed in ten states, including Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia, between Jan. 24 and Jan. 30.

The Fresh Creative Cuisine label appears on the products, and the "fresh through" or sell-by date ranges from Jan. 31 to Feb. 6.

The potential presence of listeria was discovered during routine monitoring at the facility, which prompted Fresh Ideation Food Group to issue the recall, as stated by the company's customer call line.

The discovery prompted the company to take the precautionary measure of recalling all of the products that were in production at the time of the finding.

Listeria Poisoning

As stated by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention CDC, exposure to the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes can result in listeriosis, which causes symptoms similar to those of other foodborne germs such as fever and diarrhea.

Listeria is a bacterium that can be dangerous and can hurt people with weak immune systems, pregnant women and their babies, the elderly, and people with serious health problems.

People who are otherwise healthy may also experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, a severe headache, stiffness, nausea, stomach pain, and diarrhea.

The CDC also says that people should go to the doctor and tell them they may have eaten potentially contaminated food if they get a fever and other possible symptoms of listeriosis, like feeling tired and having aches and pains in their muscles, within two months of eating potentially contaminated food.

This is crucial if you are pregnant, over 65 years old, immune compromised, or have any of the other conditions listed above.

Most experts agree that you do not need any tests or treatment if you ate food that may have been contaminated with Listeria but does not feel ill. If you have any concerns about what to do after consuming potentially contaminated food, speak with your healthcare provider.

More Details

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet received any reports of symptoms that have been confirmed to be caused by the potentially contaminated products.

The FDA is advising anyone who may have purchased the recalled products to either get rid of them or take them back to the store where they were purchased to get a full refund.

The company, Fresh Ideation Food Group LLC, can be reached at 855-969-3338, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm EST by customers who have purchased the products.
