We're less than three weeks away from the release of Fifty Shades of Grey in theaters. But you know who's not ready for it? John Oliver.

The host of HBO's Last Week Tonight was pretty upset over the decision to cast Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey in the film adaptation of the hit novel. So much so that he began a Twitter campaign using #NotMyChristian to protest the casting choice.

Now that the movie is almost here and there's really no amount of protesting or tweeting that can prevent Dornan from playing the character, Oliver filmed a special web exclusive from his Last Week Tonight desk to apologize for all the hate he sent Dornan's way. In Oliver's words, it was "a condescending, half-hearted apology that I don't really mean," but hey, it's better than nothing.

Oliver revealed that what really provoked his ire for Dornan's casting was Hollywood's lack of imagination in general, meaning that he's bitter he wasn't considered for the role. There's only so many times a person can play "a cheerful foreigner" or "a Caucasian weakling" before he cracks.

So what's a guy to do with this dilemma? The only thing he can do, of course: prove Hollywood wrong. Oliver performed a totally unsolicited audition for the role of Christian in Fifty Shades of Grey. Yes, he knows that the movie is about to hit theaters and there's absolutely no way he could be hired for the part now, but Oliver still auditioned anyway. It's something you're just going to have to see to believe.

To be fair, Christian could return to the big screen for Fifty Shades of Grey's two sequels, so there's always the possibility that they'll go in a different direction for the character then. Maybe Oliver's audition could come in handy after all. Or at least if they're in need of "a cheerful foreigner" or "a Caucasian weakling," they now know who to call.

Check out the full audition below, and see if it makes you more uncomfortable than the Fifty Shades of Grey trailer.
