Twitter users found themselves unable to send their tweets earlier today. Many have reported that the social media platform was down and inaccessible for several hours until it regained its systems. There were claims that this points out to Twitter's character limit, with people seeing notices that they are over the usual 280 characters count on the platform.

Twitter Down: Outage Affected Many Over Character Limit Issue

A report by the Washington Post claims that there were users who reported that Twitter was down for a significant number of hours before it confirmed that it was back online. It is important to note that this went alongside the rollout of the long-teased Twitter feature about its long-form tweets, one that would allow users to put in as much as 4,000 characters in a single publication.

Twitter users claimed that there was a notice that their tweets were already over the usual limit, which is why they could not post what they wanted to say on the platform. This also made Twitter access hard earlier, especially as it was popping up as a notification. It prevented people from doing anything on social media, including viewing accounts and the like.

Did Twitter Blue's Long-Form Tweets Affect This?

Twitter Support said that the issue was isolated, and the company acknowledged that there was indeed a problem in its systems.

It claimed that it is working on the issue and aims to fix it as soon as possible to return everything to the usual flow.

Nevertheless, the latest Twitter Blue feature for long-form tweets is available now, allowing people to expand their sentiments online to 4,000 characters.

Note that these are similar, as the issue claims that the user already exceeded the character limit, and the feature expands this specific number of characters. However, Twitter did not confirm whether it has connections to what happened.

Twitter and its Many Changes Online

The famous takeover of Elon Musk on Twitter sure changed the company a lot, as its new leader and owner are now greatly influenced by its goals and visions. However, it also came with several reductions, including staff layoffs that wiped out entire departments and teams, with only a few old-timers remainingremaining in the company.

There were many features added to Twitter since Musk arrived, and one of them is the Cashtags integration that would deliver a hyperlink to a collection of tweets about a specific market topic, also with a Robinhood partnership to bring more data.

One of its most notable changes is the Blue verification checkmark, where other features also arrived, including the affiliate badges that would show partners or collaborators in a verified account.

The latest feature includes the long-form tweets available for those under the Twitter Blue subscription. On the same day that the social media rolled it out, there were reports regarding outages regarding the character limit. Still, Twitter is functional now for some, and the initial setback remains unknown if it is connected or isolated from this latest feature.
