Samsung Partnering with Google and Qualcomm to Grow the Mixed Reality Market 

According to the story by CNBC, with the help of Alphabet's Google and U.S. chip giant Qualcomm, Samsung is working out a roadmap to create mixed-reality products. 

Samsung's executive vice president of Electronics, Patrick Chomet, stated that the partnership with Google and Qualcomm is not just about the three companies, as also noted in an article by CNet. Still, it's also designed to grow the mixed reality market. 

Qualcomm's Mixed-Reality Chips and Samsung and Google's Specialties 

Mixed-reality apps and experiences can be accessed via headsets, and Qualcomm sells chips specifically designed for mixed-reality products. Samsung has years of experience in hardware design, while Google's strength lies in its Android operating system and the developers who make apps for it. 

As explained further in an article by Mac Rumors, Meta has already launched a $1,500 mixed-reality headset, the Meta Quest Pro, and Apple is reportedly gearing up to release a mixed-reality headset in the spring. 

Samsung's Previous Experience with Virtual Reality: The Gear VR Headset 

Microsoft, meanwhile, has its own mixed reality headset, HoloLens, and Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi recently unveiled its prototype set of augmented reality glasses. 

Samsung has had experience with virtual reality in the past. In 2015, they launched the Gear VR headset, which required a smartphone to be inserted into it. However, electronics makers are moving away from this model and towards wireless headsets.
