Aside from the former POTUS, Melanie Trump and Donald Trump Jr. are also included in the fake photos.

These deepfakes were generated by Midjourney, a popular generative AI specialized in creating images.

Bellingcat's founder, Eliot Higgins, said that the deepfakes show how good and bad Midjourney is when it comes to rendering real scenes.

He explained that although these deepfakes are quite obvious, other people are still fooled by them.

"But that appears not to have stopped some people passing them off as genuine, which highlights that lack of critical thinking skills in our educational system," Higgins stated.

Dangers of Deepfakes: How can you spot them?

CBS News reported that one of the major threats posed by deepfakes is convincing people that something fake is real.

This means that deepfakes can distort the truth, especially when it comes to very controversial topics, especially elections, and crimes.

Since truth could be altered, deepfakes can also lead to more misinformation online. These are just some of the dangers of deepfakes.

This is why it is important for people to know how to spot deepfakes. Here are some tips that can help you do this:

  • Try looking for another version of the image.
  • Check if the images are always blurry or low-quality.
  • Observe the people's faces. If they are distorted, there's a chance those images are deepfakes.
  • Try zooming in to see if their facial expressions are natural and not like those of robots.
