PlayStation 5 (PS5) is one of the most popular gaming consoles out there, besides the Xbox Series X and the Nintendo Switch, since its release.

But this time, it looks like new variations of the PS5 consoles are on their way, specifically the PS5 Slim and the PS5 Pro. These two upcoming versions are most likely getting the shimmer of the spotlight at the PlayStation Showcase this June.

PS5 Slim

GizChina notes in its recent report that the Japanese tech behemoth, Sony, is now working on a more affordable version of the PS5, carrying the "Slim" moniker. It might compete against the Xbox Series S, which starts at less than $300 in most places.

The PS5 Slim is expected to look closely similar to the original PS5 console. But what sets it apart from its more expensive sibling is its more compact form factor. It might be slightly smaller and lighter than the standard variant, as the rumored name gives away.

PS5 Pro is the Works?

On top of the "Slim" option, Sony is reportedly working on a new PS5 Pro. Early rumors have consistently pointed out that the Japanese console maker has been planning to release it anytime soon.

Given its "Pro" moniker, the rumored new variant likely offers massive hardware upgrades to improve the overall gaming experience.

It remains to be seen how Sony plans to upgrade the hardware of the current standard version of the PS5 Pro.

According to The Gamer, the well-known industry insider, Tom Henderson, believes Sony will likely provide more news for the PS5 before the month ends. However, he says more information might come "in the next couple of months."

With that being said, it is highly likely that Sony starts showing us the upcoming variations of PS5, such as the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro during its showcase event.

After all, GizChina notes that the console maker introduced the PS5 during its PlayStation Showcase roughly three years ago.

But despite that, the tech behemoth might instead showcase the upcoming games for the PlayStation platform. And as such, do take this with a grain of salt until Sony officially announces it.

Right now, rumors are currently pointing out that the console maker is working on new PS5 variants, potentially a much more affordable option and another counterpart that comes with hardware upgrades. And these two new options might see the light of day during the PlayStation June Showcase.
