In a tragic incident at San Antonio's international airport, an airport worker lost their life after being sucked into a jet engine on Friday, June 23.

As The Guardian reports, the incident occurred as a Delta Air Lines jet, fresh from its arrival from Los Angeles, was taxiing toward an arrival gate.

The identity of the deceased worker has not been disclosed publicly, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of their death.

Investigations Underway

According to a source, the worker appeared to have intentionally stepped before the live engine. However, the authorities are still investigating this information, and an official cause of death has not yet been determined.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has contacted Delta and is gathering information regarding the incident.

The worker was employed by Unifi Aviation, a company responsible for ground handling operations for Delta and other airlines. Unifi expressed deep sadness over the loss of their employee during this tragic incident.

Further details regarding the incident have not been disclosed. Local news reported that the airport already confirmed an employee's death.

Emergency responders, including San Antonio firefighters and police officers, were the first to arrive at the scene following the worker's death. The NTSB has joined the investigation, and a preliminary report with more information is expected to be released in the coming days.

What Happens If a Human Gets Sucked Into a Plane Engine

This unfortunate incident draws attention to the risks associated with jet engines and the importance of adhering to safety protocols.

A simulation video that went viral in January demonstrated the consequences of a human body being sucked into an airplane engine.

The video, shared on YouTube, depicted a disintegration of the body and subsequent malfunctioning of the aircraft's engine.

The footage was terrifying to many, remarking on the added sounds and visuals in the simulation.

Shockingly, people being pulled into jet engines has happened in the past.

In 2015, an airplane mechanic from Texas suffered the same fate, losing their life after being sucked into a jet engine while passengers were boarding.

Another incident took place at Alabama's Montgomery Regional Airport on December 2022, where an airport employee died after being sucked into an aircraft engine.

These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining strict safety precautions around aircraft and engines.

Authorities, including the federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration (Osha), will investigate the San Antonio worker's death to determine if any safety breaches contributed to the tragic incident.

Osha had previously determined that a safety breach led to the Alabama incident and issued a fine to the responsible party.

As investigations continue into the recent San Antonio jet engine accident, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of airport workers and preventing similar incidents in the future.
