Twitter has reverted one of its most recent decisions, which would've required users to log into their accounts to view tweets. With the update, users can still see tweets without logging in by opening Twitter links on their browsers.

Twitter 'Silently' Reverts Decision to Require Users to Log In to Their Account to View Tweets

According to the story by Tech Crunch, this comes just days after Twitter's announcement, requiring users to log in for them to see tweets. The platform has reportedly reverted the changes "silently."

The publication also noted that they noticed how tweet previews are still showing in WhatsApp and Stack. It was also mentioned that at Engadget, they also noticed how Twitter previews were still noticeable on iMessage.

Upon the announcement, Elon Musk said that these measures would be applied as a "temporary measure." To explain, the billionaire noted that this decision was aimed at potentially preventing data scraping.

Elon Musk Said that the Change was a 'Temporary Emergency Measure' and that the Platform was Getting Data Pillaged

Musk called the decision a "temporary emergency measure" and said that Twitter was getting data pillaged, which resulted in normal users experiencing degrading service. So far, the company hasn't given any official announcement regarding now allowing users to view links despite not being logged in.

It was also noted that aside from no news on the reverted decision to require logins, there was also no word regarding what measures the platform will be applying for it to prevent scraping. This decision comes just shortly after Meta launched another app it had been teasing for a while.

To explain, Meta previously announced that it would be releasing a new app that was text-based to rival Twitter. The new app was called Threads, as explained further by CBS News, and Mark Zuckerberg was likely going to take advantage of how some people had split decisions on Twitter.

Meta's Threads was Launched as an Instagram App as a Text-Based Competitor to Elon Musk's Twitter

The app, Threads, was reportedly an Instagram app, and it briefly allowed users to view posts on the web without any need to log in before the links were pulled. The article by Tech Crunch noted that it was likely that people would be able to view Threads posts without needing an account upon its official launch.

In other news, Musk has also placed read limits on users to just 1,000 posts daily for unverified accounts. Verified accounts would be able to read 10,000 posts daily. This was another measure that the platform took as it tried to combat data scrapping.

In a recent blog post, Twitter said that the change would only affect a "small percentage of people" and that there hasn't been much effect on advertising. Fans would have to wait to see if Twitter will also revert the read limits since the same has happened with the decision to make tweets only viewable to those that logged in.
