It’s the dawn of a new era. #Overwatch2 launches October 4! Prepare yourselves for a one-of-a-kind, action-packed, free-to-play experience with new maps, new modes, and new heroes.

Overwatch 2 on Steam

Blizzard has exciting news for gamers as some of their beloved titles are heading to Steam. According to a report from Engadget, the company recently announced its intention to make a selection of its PC games available on the popular storefront.

The first game to make its way to Steam from Blizzard's collection will be Overwatch 2, and players can look forward to its release on August 10th. This timing aligns perfectly with the Overwatch 2: Invasion event, which introduces highly anticipated PvE story missions,  a new core PvP game mode with two new maps, and a new hero.

Steam users or Steamers will need to link their Overwatch 2 game to a Battle.net account. However, once connected, they can enjoy all the conveniences that Steam offers, including access to their friends list and achievements. This integration aims to enhance the gaming experience and foster a sense of community among players.

Valve President Gabe Newell believes that this move will benefit gamers and developers. He stated, "Gamers will have another platform where they can play a beloved game that utilizes the capabilities of Steam, and developers will benefit from the effects of having the talented team at Blizzard helping us evolve our supported features and functionality for Overwatch 2."

Accessible Offerings

Blizzard's ongoing evolution as a studio is driven by its goal to reach players worldwide and ensure their games are easily accessible and enjoyable. As per their released statement, the company is committed to providing opportunities for everyone to delve into their captivating universes, reconnecting with old acquaintances, and forming new connections, regardless of their chosen platform.

Throughout the years, Battle.net has been the dedicated hub for Blizzard's PC players and the company has continuously adapted the platform to incorporate the latest technologies and expectations based on the gaming community.  As the gaming industry has also evolved, it has become more inclusive, no longer limited to specific communities as it was.

Gaming is now for everyone, and while the company remains committed to supporting and investing in Battle.net, Blizzard aspires to remove barriers and facilitate easy access for players worldwide to discover and relish our games, ensuring that players around the world can join in and savor the experiences they offer.

Launching Other Titles

While Blizzard indicated in its announcement that it would bring multiple games to Steam, Overwatch 2 remains the only one it has announced so far. The Verge reported that no details were released by the company regarding the titles that they will shift to PC but as per the statement, these games will come "when the time is right."
