League of Legends have been waiting for a long time to test their finger-clicking skills in hopes of seeing the new champion Hwei soon. If you're not into LOL but playing Dota 2, you probably heard about Invoker. These two are quite similar when it comes to their spells.

Some gamers believe that Riot might have taken inspiration from the greatest midlane mage of Dota. In reality, how different is Hwei compared to Invoker?

This might not come in clutch, but League of Legends' new champion Hwei shares some similarities with Dota 2's Invoker which is for players with "keyboard" powers.

In line with Hwei's revelation, the developers acknowledged the parallels with Dota 2's Invoker. However, Myles Shalholm, one of the designers, clarified that Hwei wasn't crafted as a mere replica.

In the early stages, Hwei's gameplay involved selecting a color of paint and a shape to cast a spell-a nod to his background as a mage painter. This concept bore an uncanny resemblance to Invoker's elemental mixing, but Riot eventually diverged from this idea.

Hwei's final design organizes his nine base skills into three categories, loosely connected to their respective spell functionalities.

Navigating Hwei's Spellbound Arsenal

While the similarities between Hwei and Invoker lie in their extensive spell repertoire, the gameplay nuances set them apart. The newcomer champion introduces a dynamic element to spellcasting with three sets of spells sharing a cooldown.

Unlike Invoker's mana-dependent system, Hwei challenges players to strategize, considering the urgency of their spell choices as it affects the cooldown of two others.

The Disaster Spells: Choosing Destruction Wisely

Within Hwei's 'Disaster' spell category, players face the strategic dilemma of selecting the most appropriate spell for the situation. Each spell inflicts damage but with distinct effects-an AOE explosion, increased damage to immobilized or isolated foes, or a lava path that slows enemies.

As reported by PC Gamer, the shared cooldown compels players to think critically about their choices, adding an extra layer of complexity to Hwei's gameplay.

Serenity Spells: Bestowing Buffs for Battle

Hwei's "Serenity" spells provide buffs for either the player or their team, offering a shield, enhanced movement speed, or on-hit mana replenishment. The challenge lies in making quick decisions, as the shared cooldown demands thoughtful selection to maximize their impact on the battlefield.

Torment Spells: Subjugating the Opposition

When it comes to "Torment" spells, Hwei focuses on subduing enemies. Players must decide whether to induce fear, root adversaries, or pull them into the center of an AOE while slowing them down. This strategic choice adds a layer of depth to Hwei's gameplay, requiring players to adapt their tactics based on the situation.

Mastering the Art of Spellweaving

Switching between spell sets proves to be a straightforward affair. For 'Disaster' spells, pressing Q and then Q, W, or E selects the desired spell. Serenity spells initiate with a W press, followed by QWE to trigger individual spells, and so forth.

Hwei's Learning Curve

Compared to recent champions, Hwei leans toward the complexity spectrum, demanding time and dedication to master. While seasoned players may unleash the full potential of his spell variety, those at lower to mid-levels might find it challenging to leave a lasting impact.

Hwei's strength lies in the synergy of his skills, urging players to string together combos and utilize his passive bonus damage for maximum effect.

Balancing Hwei and his extensive spell library poses a considerable challenge. Anticipate fluctuations in his performance during the initial months on the Rift as players and Riot Games navigate the intricacies of his gameplay at all skill levels.

Is Hwei Related to Jhin?

According to OneEsports, Hwei and Jhin are somewhat related to one another. Riot Games wrote that they are from Ionia.

Hwei used to spend time learning on how to master his magic in a temple. He has been practicing secretly to be the best mage in his community.

When Jhin went to the temple, he quickly became close to Hwei because he is the only person who knew the latter's art. However, Jhin has changed and became a psychopath. For him, "murder is art."
