A new opposition against Remedy Entertainment has been filed by Take-Two Interactive, with the renowned video game holding company gunning for the former's new logo, redesigned to only feature the "R" letter. Take-Two claims that this new design is similar to its subsidiary game studio, Rockstar Games, best known for its iconic italicized "R" letter with a star below, atop a yellow background.

It is widely known that Take-Two Interactive is massive in pursuing patent cases like this, centering on infringement issues against others.

New reports are now highlighting the massive dispute pushed by Take-Two Interactives and its lawyers against its known collaborative partner, Remedy Entertainment. The company filed its opposition in the United Kingdom's Intellectual Property Office (IPO), centering on two versions of it with one that includes the company name, and the other one without it

The opposition was filed in September, and as per the UK IPO's rules, this means that the logo may be seen as "a likelihood of confusion by the public" (via Engadget).

That being said, this refreshed logo from Remedy Entertainment was released last Spring, centering on the latest direction and branding of the company.

As per Take-Two's claims, Remedy's new R logo is similar to that of its subsidiary, Rockstar Games, best known for its single letter logo as well, but differs with the background color and star underneath.

This was filed despite Remedy and Take-Two's collaboration in remastering the hit game franchise, Max Payne, focusing on the first two games.

Engadget regarded Take-Two to pursue these kinds of issues against other companies with similarities or likeness to its trademarked logos and elements, with a 2021 issue against Hazelight Studios for It Takes Two.

Take-Two Interactive vs. Illegal Copies

Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive are best known for their renowned gaming franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, but the company is also infamous for its court battles. Back in 2015, Rockstar and Take-Two filed a lawsuit against BBC because of the 'Game Changer' drama which talked about how GTA was conceived and developed.

There were also the iconic leaks behind Grand Theft Auto 6, where Rockstar Games and Take-Two are best known for restricting their social media accounts to avoid another exposure of the then-unannounced game. Because of a previous hacking incident where the threat actor replied to their social media post, revealing the content of their next game, the team turned off comments for its accounts.

Patent disputes are massive amongst top brands best known for their names and logos, to prevent confusion among the public and highlight their likeness. It remains unknown how Remedy's logo would turn out, especially with this complaint from Take-Two Interactive, centering on the new 'R' logo of the company that was said to be similar to Rockstar Games.
