Samsung has sent out invites for a press event it has scheduled for March 1. The company is expected to launch its next-generation Galaxy S6 and curved display Galaxy S6 Edge.

With Mobile World Congress in March fast approaching, details regarding highly anticipated new smartphones have begun to leak at an alarming rate. Most recently, images of HTC's One M9 and One M9 Plus hit the web and gave us a close up look at the redesigned smartphone and phablet. The company has already sent out invites for a media event it is holding on March 1 and it won't be the only high-profile smartphone maker revealing two new smartphones that day.

Samsung used last year's Mobile World Congress to launch the Galaxy S5 and the company just sent out invites for an event it has scheduled for March 1, where it is widely believed to launch the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The invite has Samsung's tagline "What's Next" below what appears to be a tease of the curved metal frame that is expected to be featured on the Galaxy S6 Edge.

Multiple reports have suggested that Samsung is planning to use a play from its Galaxy Note phablet playbook by introducing two variants of its Galaxy S6 flagship smartphone. Like the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will have very similar specs, but the S6 Edge will reportedly feature a curved display with panels that extend and wrap around the left and right side of the device.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will reportedly boast 2560 x 1440 Quad HD displays and run Android 5.0 Lollipop and an updated version of Samsung's TouchWiz UI. The pair of smartphones are also expected to be powered by a speedy 64-bit octa-core processor and have 3 GB of RAM. The handsets are rumored to ship with a 20-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing shooter.

March 1 is shaping up to be a jam-packed day of new smartphone announcements from Samsung and HTC. We'll be bringing you all the latest news from Mobile World Congress.
