The latest scoop on Apple's future development of its smart glasses claims that it is already underway as the company is reportedly working on the new chip that will power this novel wearable.

It has been revealed that it is expected to come around as early as 2027.

It has also been revealed that these smart glasses could come in two forms. One will reportedly feature augmented reality, while the other will not.

Apple Smart Glasses' Chip Reportedly Under Works

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman shared a new report that claims that Apple is now working on a specific chip that would soon power its new smart glasses. This new chip will reportedly be an integral part of the smart glasses that seek to rival Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses.

The report did not dive into the specifics behind the chipset that will reportedly power the future smart glasses from the company, but it was revealed that it is expected to finish soon.

It has also been revealed that Apple expects to end its chip development by next year or in 2027, and if prototypes are successful, the wearable device itself may arrive in the next two years. The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is said to be the one handling its production.

The possible smart glasses in 2026 or 2027 will also reportedly have two versions, with the first one not having any AR capabilities.

On the other hand, Apple is also reportedly working on an AR-powered one, but it reportedly is not the "highly advanced" augmented reality glasses that are envisioned by the company.

Wearable Technology From Apple

Apple is no longer new in the wearable technology industry as the company has made a name for itself as it delivered different wearables, popularizing the smart wrist wearable in the market. The Apple Watch is one of the Cupertino-based tech giant's most popular wearables, and it still delivers many advancements and upgrades on a regular basis.

While the smart glasses are one of the most talked about wearable tech from Apple in recent rumors, there is also another device that is getting upgraded with cameras. This is the AirPods, which will receive cameras at the bottom part of the device, and reports claim that it is expected to arrive in two years, putting it alongside the timeline of the smart glasses.

Still, the latest wearable to come from Apple, which made a significant technological impact in the industry, is the Vision Pro headset, which took on the AR and VR world. While it is out of reach for the masses, there are plans for cost-effective ones in the future. There is still no word on the Vision Pro's upgraded version, as well as the cheaper one, but it seems that the lineup will not stop with the almost two-year-old device.
