Looking for a tactical RPG where the battlefield remembers your choices and your death isn't the end? Never's End, the newly announced title from indie developer Hypersect, promises a world shaped by elemental magic, strategic rebirth, and systems-rich combat, arriving later this year on PC and PlayStation.
Announced Tuesday, Never's End puts you in the armor of an immortal warrior made of living metal, reborn to push back a creeping apocalypse known as the Never. Melding turn-based tactics with environmental manipulation and town-building mechanics, the game challenges players to alter the terrain in real time, weaponize elements, and forge a new civilization from the ashes. With 3D pixel art by Octopath Traveler's Masayoshi Nishimura and a soundtrack by Enter the Gungeon's Doseone, Never's End channels the spirit of genre greats while introducing deeply reactive gameplay designed to reward creative thinking.
"Our collective influences from tactical RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre came together to spark a grander idea," said Ryan Juckett, founder of Hypersect, in a statement sent to Tech Times. "Never's End fleshes out turn-based tactics combat with reactive systems empowering players to co-author the story and make it their own, which is a feeling we loved in Divinity: Original Sin 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Together with Nishimura-san, Doseone, and you, we're excited to finally get to show you all just how memorable this forgotten world can be."
You'll get to control a band of possessed warriors in this open-world game, reclaiming the ruins of humanity's fallen empire. Upgrade towns, temples, and other places while you build businesses, establish trade routes, and bring new companions to your customizable team. Each battle you hit will give you new loot to support your town and upgrades. You'll have to grow your little virtual community with weaponsmiths, tavern keeps, tanneries, logging camps, and more to keep your army growing and your team competitive with the ever-evolving enemies.
If you dig tactical RPGs and city builders, this game could become your new obsession. Never's End launches on PC via Steam and PlayStation consoles in late 2025.
