There are massive changes in store for Warner Bros. Games, particularly as reports claim that the studio has recently restructured their leadership to bring fresh takes to their titles and franchises. With this restructure, WB Games is also refocusing its efforts towards three important tentpoles in its intellectual properties (IPs), prioritizing the likes of "Harry Potter," "Mortal Kombat," and DC Comics.
The company is now determined to bring better experiences to gamers and deliver more for them in the coming years, with WB Games now betting heavily on their strengths to deliver improvements for all.
WB Games Restructure: Prioritizing 'HP,' 'MK,' and DC
The latest report from Variety has revealed that Warner Bros. Games has recently undergone a massive restructuring for its studio, and it is now looking towards coming back strong with newfound focus.
Part of this restructuring is the company's clearer path on which games to prioritize in developments, with WB Games choosing three of its renowned franchises to be the face of the company.
This includes games from the "Harry Potter," "Mortal Kombat," and DC franchises, which are also some of its most popular developments in other media.
The company's restructuring did not have any layoffs but saw different executives getting promoted into filling in larger roles for specific IPs. According to ComicBook Gaming, NetherRealm's Shaun Himmerick is now appointed as senior vice president to oversee new gaming projects on the "Mortal Kombat" and DC IPs.
On the other hand, Warner Bros. Montreal's Yves Lachance is now the senior vice president who will head the development for "Harry Potter" and "Game of Thrones."
Lastly, WB Games New York's Steven Flenory is now appointed as the new senior vice president of central tech and services, focusing on "game and publishing technology, customer service, quality assurance, and user research."
Could We Expect More Games From These IPs?
It is already expected that in the "Harry Potter" franchise, WB Games is already in pre-production of the successor game to "Hogwarts Legacy," with it being the studio's most successful game in recent years. The action RPG set in the Wizarding World has renewed the interest in the franchise, with it bringing significant accolades to Warner Bros. and boosting its studio.
However, while not the same can be said for DC's games and "Mortal Kombat," the company still looks to prioritize these IPs and deliver improvements that would make it successful again in the industry.
For DC, the company recently suffered a loss with the long-delayed "Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League," which did not exactly deliver on expectations when it was made available to gamers. On the other hand, WB Games also canceled a standalone DC game which was supposedly set to bring a solo focus on Wonder Woman under the now-shut down Monolith.
NetherRealm's "Mortal Kombat 1" revamp also faltered along the way, as despite launching successfully, the company pulled out support earlier than expected despite their promises.
