
Most, if not all, the time, fans get very excited when beloved video games end up getting expansions. When Bungie announced a new one for 2017's "Destiny 2" set for release this year, many fans expected awesome things to come.
Did fans end up getting what they were hoping for with the expansion? Here's what you have to know about "Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate."
'Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate'
Released on July 15, 2025, "Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate" is developed and published by Bungie. It is considered a medium-sized expansion to "Destiny 2."
For those unfamiliar with "Destiny 2," it is a free-to-play online first-person shooter (FPS) where players take on the role of the Guardians tasked to protect Earth's last safe city from many threats.
"The Edge of Fate" brings a new adventure for the Guardians, who are tasked to track a mysterious signal to a location at the edge of the solar system. This also means a new set of opponents and discoveries to be made.
'Mixed' Reviews on Steam
As of writing, "The Edge of Fate" expansion has more than 1,300 user reviews on Steam. Steam as categorized these reviews as "Mixed."
"To new players: this is the expansion you want to start with," Steam user Mr McEvans said in a review. "The past content is fragmented and overwhelming, but this new experience feels like 'Destiny 3.'"
"It's cohesive, exciting, and sets a strong foundation," Mr McEvans added. "If you've ever been curious about 'Destiny,' now is the time to jump in."
"If you are an OG 'Destiny' player that stopped after the final shape & wondering if now is a good time to try again...the answer is no," THE WARDEN said in a separate Steam review. "Our time is up, the heights we have seen are long gone & this expansion highlights this."
THE WARDEN added, "It is not the worse, but knowing what Bungie can do, puts this into perspective as a weak entry."
2.4 Stars on Google Reviews
Over at Google Reviews, the expansion is not doing well in terms of rating, scoring only 2.4 stars out of five.
"The campaign starts promising with the story introducing Lodi as a fine character," Google user Pieter De Mits said in a review. "Unfortunately, later on it feels like 'Lightfall' all over again but on another planet."
"Destiny 2 The Edge or Fate is a cashgrab, and the biggest letdown I've ever seen in any game," Kyrin Seven said in a separate Google review. "The campaign was a drag, relying almost entirely on mechanics that don't fit into the game at all."
