When Hideo Kojima and Konami parted ways, many fans believed that the future of "Metal Gear Solid" looked bleak. It was assumed then that no new "Metal Gear" game will ever be released again after "Metal Gear Survive" in 2018.

To say that fans were surprised when the remake of "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" was announced is an understatement.

After a long wait, the game is now here. But do the fans like the remake?

Here's what you have to know about "Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater."

'Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater'

Released on August 28, 2025, "Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater" is developed and published by Konami. As previously mentioned, it is the remake of "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater."

Despite being heavily involved in the original, Kojima had no participation in the remake.

As with the original, the game follows the story of a FOX operative known as Naked Snake and is set during the Cold War. Snake is tasked with rescuing a Soviet rocket scientist sabotaging a weapon called Shagohod.

'Very Positive' Reviews on Steam

As of press time, "Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater' has more than 9,000 user reviews on Steam, which the platform has categorized collectively as "Very Positive."

"Fantastic remake. Love the new modern controls. Graphics were updated faithfully. I had zero performance issues with the game," Eul0gy said in a Steam review. "Same wild Kojima story. Would love to see Konami update 'Metal Gear,' 'Metal Gear 2,' and 'MGS1' to at least this quality level."

"This was my first time playing any 'Metal Gear' game, and also my first experience with a Kojima title," ememad77 said in a separate review. "Before this, I couldn't really understand all the appreciation around Kojima and his games. But after finishing this, I can't describe how much I loved the game and his approach to game-making."

3.6 Stars on Google Reviews

"Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater" has an average rating of 3.6 out of 5 stars on Google Reviews, as of writing.

"A faithful remake that oozes nostalgia and style. Playing with the new control scheme feels fantastic and legacy controls are available for purists," Josey TheWhale said in a Google Review. "I think 'Resident Evil' series is still the gold standard for remaking classic titles, but damn if 'MGS Delta' didn't knock it out of the park."

"I can't even call it a remake, more like a UE5 remaster," Logan Gabriel said in a separate Google Review. "This is a very craven and lazy move by Konami, there is no innovation or risk involved."

"We already played it on PS2, I'm not gonna pay for the same game again," Gabriel added. "Not only boring cause I've seen everything in it, but it's also outdated in some way cause it's actually an old game that doesn't meet modern expectations."
