When most people think of augmented reality, they imagine something futuristic. For INMO Technology, the vision is more playful and immediate: "to connect the virtual and physical worlds through fun, innovative products that turn everyday surroundings into a playground." That idea defines the philosophy behind the INMO Air 3, the company's most ambitious attempt yet to make AR truly wearable.
While giants like Meta and Apple chase high-powered, headset-style devices, INMO has taken a different path. As the pioneer of all-in-one wireless AR glasses, the company focuses on making AR lighter, more open, and more human-centered.
"We're not trying to follow others," a product manager tells Tech Times. "We build from user needs, balancing independence, openness, and design."
That vision takes shape in the INMO Air 3, which features a full-color 1080p waveguide display developed in-house. It delivers sharp, vibrant visuals without light leakage or rainbow distortion. With brightness up to 600 nits, it's one of the first all-in-one AR displays that truly rivals smartphone clarity while keeping content private to the wearer.
The Air 3 also debuts an innovative navigation method: the INMO Ring, a small companion device that replaces camera-based hand tracking. The concept comes from natural human gestures—pointing, swiping, tapping. INMO says the goal is to make interaction precise, low-latency, and reliable anywhere.
Comfort, often a weak point for AR glasses, was another key focus during development.
"We received a lot of feedback from early users about balance and fit," the product manager notes.
The production version, scheduled to ship to Kickstarter backers in December, includes two sets of adjustable nose pads designed to accommodate different facial structures around the world.
Running on Android 14, the INMO Air 3 is built with independence and openness at its core. From the outset, the team designed the glasses to operate as a standalone device with full app compatibility and space for future expansion. Beyond familiar Birdbath-style AR experiences such as video streaming, gaming, and productivity tools, INMO envisions the Air 3 as an open platform for next-generation interactive features.
In parallel, INMO is collaborating with developers to build an open ecosystem. The Air 3 already provides early access to SDKs and APIs, encouraging creative experimentation and co-development within the AR community. Looking ahead, the company plans to launch ecosystem competitions and partnership programs to further expand the platform's innovation potential.
"We see Air 3 not just as another gadget, but as an open platform for creativity," the product manager adds. "By building on Android, we give developers the freedom to push AR into new interactive directions."
INMO's approach feels refreshing in an industry obsessed with specs and scale. Rather than chasing sheer computing power, the company is looking for balance—between design and performance, innovation and comfort.
With the Air 3, INMO is redefining what it means for technology to blend into everyday life—making AR not a spectacle, but something naturally human.
