"Roblox" is shaking up the development of the games that users may play within it, as it is now set to adopt AI graphics, as revealed by the Roblox Corporation and its CEO, David Baszucki.
The company said that it will be called "Roblox Reality" and it is set to deliver a significant upgrade to the quality that users and developers alike will see on the platform, centering on "hyperrealistic" visuals.
'Roblox' AI Graphics Development Is Coming
According to the latest post by "Roblox's" Senior Vice President of Engineering, Anupam Singh, the team is internally working on a project called "Roblox Reality," which is a hybrid architecture that combines photorealistic graphics with "hyperscale multiplayer gaming." The company regarded this latest tech as a "fundamental shift in how multiplayer immersive worlds will be created and experienced."
The CEO of Roblox also shared about the feature via X, and here he said that it creates hyperrealistic visuals from existing game data. The team at Roblox reportedly wants to get this feature launched no later than 2027.
The technology works by splitting two jobs between two systems.
By combining the Roblox Game Engine with a new Video World Model, the platform creates a system where the engine handles the underlying truth, including where players are and how fast objects move, while the AI layers on the pixels, such as glistening raindrops on a windshield or the way light filters through autumn leaves.
We’re on the verge of interactive, real-time, photorealistic video generation with what are called World Models. These require a fair amount of expensive compute, but costs will come down over time. Hyperrealistic Visuals Coming to 'Roblox'
The main focus of this latest AI graphics technology is to simulate a "photorealistic look" for the game's users play within "Roblox," and it is set to deliver a significant enhancement to the characters, environment, and more.
With the technology, a team of three developers may create a narrative-driven and photorealistic experience in a single week. According to the company, the AI graphics will offer a real-time photorealistic video generation that offers an interactive experience to players.
Roblox Reality will be optimized to run on cloud edge GPU infrastructure coupled with video streaming, while eventually integrating with the Roblox client to support local avatar control and simulation.
At present, it remains unclear if the technology will make it into "Roblox" and give its creators and players a whole new experience within its games or worlds, with the company not yet revealing when it will be available.
