For those who have been assuming that the second "Minecraft" movie will be called "A Minecraft Movie 2," that is not what's going to happen. It's no longer going to be called "A Minecraft Sequel" either.
Instead, the official name for the sequel film has been made public, and it's none other than "A Minecraft Movie Squared."
Here's what's known for now about the upcoming sequel.
'A Minecraft Movie' Sequel Gets New Name
According to a report by Gizmodo, the sequel's title was revealed during the Minecraft Live event. The report likewise reveals that the movie's production is already underway in New Zealand.
Aside from the movie's official name, an official first look has been released for the fans, featuring cast members Jason Momoa, Jack Black, and Kristen Dunst.
Matt Berry, who previously voiced Nitwit in the previous film, is also part of the cast, but it has been revealed that he'd be playing a different character this time. As to which character it will be, it has not been revealed as of writing.

'A Minecraft Movie Squared' Movie Details
Aside from Momoa, Black, Dunst, and Berry, the cast of the sequel includes Danielle Brooks and Jennifer Coolidge. Like the previous film, it will be directed by Jared Hess, who is also co-writing the screenplay alongside Chris Galletta.
Plot details have been kept under lock and key so far, according to Hypebeast. However, the cast has teased that the sequel will explore new biomes and will dive deeper into Overworld.
A creator-focused contest has also been launched for the movie. The contest invites fans of "Minecraft" to create new designs in-game. A big prize awaits that winner as their creation will be featured either in the movie itself or in the end credits.
