Laptop Deals: Dell XPS 13 Relaunch Targets Budget Buyers With $599 Price Until September 2026

We’re three months away from its end date, but time is gold.

Dell has officially revived its XPS 13 lineup following its recent CES teaser, positioning the updated model as a more affordable entry point into the premium laptop segment.

The company introduced a new pricing strategy aimed at students, launching the device at a promotional price of $599 for a limited period.

Snag It Until September

The offer is expected to run until September as part of Dell's back-to-school campaign. After the promotional window ends, the starting price will increase to $699.

The refreshed XPS 13 is expected to compete directly with Apple's entry-level MacBook lineup, including the rumored MacBook Neo, which also targets students and first-time buyers. However, Apple's student discount program may bring its pricing even lower, intensifying competition in the education-focused laptop market.

Ultra-Thin Design Prioritizes Portability Over Ports

The latest XPS 13 continues Dell's push toward ultra-portable design, making it the thinnest and lightest version in the series to date. The laptop measures just 12.7mm thick and weighs approximately 2.2 pounds, making it ideal for students and professionals who prioritize mobility.

However, the minimalist design introduces notable trade-offs. The device includes only two USB-C ports and removes the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack entirely.

Even higher-end configurations expected later, powered by Intel Panther Lake processors, will retain this limited port selection while offering upgraded performance options, including Thunderbolt 4 support and up to 32GB of RAM.

Display and Core Hardware Specifications

Every configuration of the new XPS 13 features a 13.4-inch anti-glare touchscreen display with a 2560 x 1600 resolution. The panel supports a variable refresh rate between 30Hz and 120Hz, reaches up to 500 nits of brightness, and delivers full 100% DCI-P3 color coverage.

According to The Verge, the base model includes an Intel Core 5 320 "Wildcat Lake" processor, 512GB of storage, and 8GB of RAM. While storage remains generous for a base configuration, the limited memory may raise concerns about long-term multitasking performance on Windows 11.

Battery Life and Student-Focused Positioning

Dell claims the XPS 13 can deliver up to 17 hours of streaming battery life, further strengthening its appeal for students and mobile users. The inclusion of a backlit keyboard and lightweight chassis makes it a productivity-focused device.

Despite these strengths, the entry-level 8GB RAM configuration may struggle with heavier workloads, particularly for users running multiple applications simultaneously.

Still, Dell is betting that its combination of affordability, portability, and battery life will make the XPS 13 an appealing option for students during the back-to-school season. It's a great buy for them and an investment in the long run.
