Harrison Ford was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after a plane crash in California where he was the pilot and only passenger. Reports claim the 72-year-old veteran actor walked away from the crash with injuries to his head.

According to NBC News, the actor crash landed at the Penmar Golf Course after his single-engine plane suffered mechanical issues around 2 p.m. The actor was reported transferred to a Los Angeles area hospital where it is said his condition is moderate to fair, according to reports from the Los Angeles Fire Department.

At first, reports from law enforcements indicated the actor's condition was critical, but that doesn't seem to be the case for the moment.

Ford, who was the only passenger in the vintage two-seater plane, suffered lacerations. Witnesses at the scene claim the actor walked away from the crash and was quickly attended to by physicians. The accident is reported to have happened at 2:20 p.m. PST (5:20 p.m. EST), shortly after takeoff from the Santa Monica Airport.

"There was blood all over his face," says Howard Tabe, an employee at the Penmar Golf Course, in a short interview with NBC News. "Two very fine doctors were treating him, taking good care of him. I helped put a blanket under his hip."

Ford is well-known as an avid pilot who has crashed in the past. The actor has a license to fly fixed-winged aircrafts and helicopters. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating, officials confirmed.

He recently suffered a broken ankle when he was injured while filming the upcoming installment in the Star Wars films.
