Ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm and the Star Wars license, Kingdom Hearts fans have hoped that a world inspired by the movie would make its way into the game.

Considering that the series is already based on Final Fantasy characters crossing paths with Disney icons, a level based on Star Wars isn't all that far-fetched. Frozen makes even more sense, especially considering that Kingdom Hearts is already full of fairy tale worlds.

That's why it's more surprising that Disney already brought Star Wars and Frozen into a Kingdom Hearts title...and then canceled the entire game.

Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys was an iOS game being developed by Disney back in 2013. The studio behind the game, Go For Launch Productions, was helping create the game's art assets before it was cancelled for unknown reasons.

Fast-forward to March 2015, when concept art for Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys was uploaded to GFL's blog. It wasn't just a few pictures of half-finished environments, either: highly-detailed locales and seemingly finished character profiles were uploaded en masse. Art for worlds like Lilo and Stitch, Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph were all posted, along with the aforementioned Star Wars and Frozen pieces.

The Frozen artwork doesn't offer much in the way of detail, as it's only environmental art, but the Star Wars concept art indicates that Fragmented Keys would have used the animated Clone Wars series as a jumping off point. It makes sense, given the stylized nature of the show and Kingdom Hearts, but one has to wonder if Disney would opt to use something more in line with the upcoming films.

Again, there's seemingly no real reason that the game was canceled, and neither Disney nor GFL Studios have made any sort of statement. Whether or not Disney intends to pull the art from the web remains to be seen, but if the art were to contain any spoilers for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III, don't expect the art to stay up for much longer.

Kingdom Hearts III still doesn't have a release date, though Goofy insists it'll be released in 2015.
