Disney isn't slowing down with these live-action adaptations of classic animated films. First came Maleficent, a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. Then came Cinderella. Soon there will also be a live-action Mulan film in theaters, alongside a live-action Beauty and the Beast and Dumbo.

And now we have this. A live-action Winnie the Pooh.

Details are scarce right now, but Deadline reports Alex Ross Perry has been hired to direct the project. The story of the movie will revolve around an adult Christopher Robin returning to the famous Hundred Acre Wood.

Perry is fresh of his work on indie film Listen Up Phillip, which he wrote and directed. Disney's live-action adaptations have tended to be more "adult" versions of their animated counterparts, so perhaps we can expect the same of Winnie the Pooh.

We wouldn't be surprised if the success of the live-action Paddington bear film starring Nicole Kidman had something to do with Disney's decision. The film proved you could make a children's character truly work in a live-action setting, and CGI is now advanced enough to deliver some truly living digital characters.

That being said, there is still something terrifying about the idea of a live-action Piglet. Pigs don't look like that; they don't wear striped shirts. Then we'll have sentient kangaroos, tigers, and giant walking owls in the film as well, all brought to life with the magic of modern day visual effects. Maybe this isn't such a good idea. Let's just all hope this new film will have plenty of Eeyore. He is the only one who understands our pain.
