Maroon 5 has been around for a while and the band has not had its shortage of crazy fans. Adam Levine – being Adam Levine – is of course always the primary target. That was the case yet again on Monday, April 6, during the band's last performance for their North American tour.
The Maroon 5 frontman was on stage at the Honda Center in Anaheim when a fan just got up on stage and reached out for a hug. Levine, who had his back to the fan, was clearly taken by surprise.
How did she even make it on stage so easily?
Levine, for his part, handled the situation coolly, quickly pushing the girl away when she got close. After seeing the girl was no threat, however, he pulled her in, putting his arm around her until security moved in and got the fan off the stage.
The concert was stalled for a few minutes because of the incident. Levine addressed the crowd, admitting "it was super terrifying."
"It's just weird to be, like, in the moment, ya know? And you're singing, and your eyes are closed, and you have this beautiful moment. And then the next thing you know, someone's f**king in your face," he said.
Levine also got a cut on his ear from the overeager fan's fingernail — but he was sweet about the whole situation, saying it was all good.
Maybe the fan took the lyrics to the Maroon 5 song "Animal" too seriously, deciding that Levine was going to be her prey for the night?
Any fan would understand the urge to give your favorite singer a hug — but many concertgoers were not pleased, taking to social media to express their annoyance and disbelief at what had happened.
A number of those in attendance praised Levine for the way he handled things with the fan but many more criticized the security team for letting such a slip happen. Other fans were relieved that it had just been an overeager but harmless member of their tribe. But what if wasn't? What if it was a wackjob with a knife? Some serious reassessment of security protocols must have gone down after the concert.
With Maroon 5's North American tour wrapped up, Levine will be heading back to the studios to begin taping for The Voice.
