Finding the perfect baby name can be one of the most difficult tasks in the world. It's gotten even more complicated after several countries banned certain names from being given to children.

In many cases, the rules have to do with religion or common sense. Sometimes laws have to be put in place to protect children who would be bullied because their parents chose to call them Virgin. What kind of parents want to name their child Virgin? What happens when Virgin grows up and no longer fits his or her name? We don't ever want to find out.

Let's get down to the names, shall we?

Tom:

The names Tom, Rob and Sammy are not legal baby names in Portugal. We're not sure why this is the case, but it is legal to name a child Tomas. Just don't ever refer to him in the diminutive.

@:

That isn't a typo — the @ symbol is what a particular Chinese couple attempted to name their child. Fortunately, the government intervened and banned the name before the parents could get away with doing something regrettable.

Osama Bin Laden:

Not too long after the 9/11 attacks, a Turkish couple living in Germany made plans to name their child Osama Bin Laden. They were barred from doing so, and it's safe to say the child was probably spared a lifetime of bullying because of his name. We don't want to imagine what they were thinking.

Harry Potter:

Mexico is well known for banning baby names that come from famous fictional characters. The country has blacklisted Harry Potter, James Bond, Hermione, Rambo and many more.

Facebook and Yahoo:

We're not kidding — this is indeed for real. Parents have genuinely attempted to name their children Yahoo and Facebook, forcing the Mexican government to ban the brands as potential baby names. People that obsessed with social media should reconsider having kids...

Batman:

Yes, we know — Batman is cool, and everyone would love to have a Dark Knight in the family. Well, guess what? Your child will never be Batman, so don't attempt it. It would be acceptable to give a child the name Bruce Wayne, but "Batman" is just sending that young boy down a terrible path.

From what we have come to understand, the Mexican government is on a roll — having banned the names Terminator and Robocop, along with favorite book characters and social media sites.
