Vandal Savage is the main villain in the Legends of Tomorrow TV show, but who is he and where does he come from? We can say for sure that Savage is immortal and has been roaming the Earth for thousands of years.

In the Legends of Tomorrow trailer, we did not get the chance to see Vandal Savage, but from what the heroes have to say, this man is one of the most dangerous villains on Earth, not to mention he's immortal and orders around a vast army of his own.

We have no idea who will play the character and whether or not he will differ considerably from the source material. What is clear though, is that Savage is a man who appears to want world dominance, and he will kill millions to get it.

Who is Vandal Savage:

As stated before, Savage is an immortal who has been alive for thousands of years. He began life as a caveman back in the prehistoric era but gained intelligence after coming in contact with a meteor rock. His enhanced physiology allowed him to commit the first murder in the history of mankind, and so he was once known as Cain, similar to Cain who killed his brother Abel in the Christian Bible.

Over the years, he became a man of many names, and he helped to shape the world to what it has become. In the comic, he was Julius Caesar, Genghis Khan, Jack the Ripper, Black Beard and many other prominent figures in history.

We should make it clear that he didn't adopt the names of these famous personalities, they were all him.

By now, it should be clear how dangerous Savage is, and being immortal and smart makes him even deadlier than most villains in the DC Multiverse.

Unfortunately for the Vandal Savage character, DC didn't do a good job with him after the New 52 reboot back in 2011. He's a shadow of his former self and is more of a thug than anything else. The version being used in Legends of Tomorrow appears to be borrowing from the old stories to flesh out his origins and future.
