Many users of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge have been facing memory issues with their handsets. Now, an XDA Developers forum thread offers a possible fix for the problem.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in March this year, and customers started receiving their handsets beginning in April. Both the handsets pack in top-end hardware specs and software features that have attracted millions of smartphone customers throughout the world.

However, several customers using either the Galaxy S6 or the Galaxy S6 Edge have reported facing memory issues. Users of both the handsets complained that apps do not stay in the RAM for long. Both the handsets boast 3 GB of RAM, but it is the RAM management setting that is causing the memory issues.

"I'll open up chrome, go to a webpage, exit chrome, and then when I come back to chrome it starts reloading the page again. I've noticed it refreshes or restarts a ton of apps after I come back to them after a short amount of time and it never puts me where I last left off in the app. Even my two year old phones keep apps open longer," complained a Galaxy S6 user on XDA Developers forum.

A hot debate is ongoing in the smartphone community regarding the issue, as some people believe it is a handset problem, while others suggest it is to do with Android's 5.0 Lollipop operating system, which is working too hard to free up memory from the RAM.

Samsung has not yet confirmed the issue and has not issued an official fix to address the problem. However, an XDA Developers thread seems to have found a fix that needs root access to solve the problem. Check out the below screen shot from the XDA Developers thread that resolves the memory issue of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge.

Fixing the issue requires root access, and many people are unfortunately unfamiliar with that. Experts suggest that people should not opt for fixing the issue if they are not familiar with root access. It is also recommended that people should try to fix the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge memory problem only if they are facing a lot of trouble.
