The Chicago Blackhawks had just scored a 2-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning to clinch their third Stanley Cup victory in the past six seasons. Just one thing was missing from the Blackhawks' on-ice celebration Monday night: the actual Stanley Cup.

With flooding and subsequent road closures hammering the Chi-Town area, it took a police escort reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour, according to ESPN, to get the Cup to the Blackhawks' home arena, the United Center. That said, the Cup still arrived – more than fashionably late – into the hands of the Blackhawks in time for their celebration.

Just like a shiny silver, historic sports award to make you wait, right?

A source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN that the security detail handling the Cup actually left their hotel at the puck drop for Monday night's Game 6, but was slowed by the arduous, painful commute — only arriving until well after the game ended.

"Mother Nature was not a hockey fan tonight," Phil Pritchard, head keeper of the Cup, told ESPN after finally getting the Cup into the hands of the team. The Blackhawks then did everything from hoisting the silver trophy into the air to kissing it — and, if we were gamblers, we'd be willing to bet they poured some champagne in it and used it as an actual cup.

Definitely worth the wait. Salute to the Blackhawks! Winning the Stanley Cup in three of the past six years certainly qualifies them being as an official sports dynasty.
