Longtime Destiny players aren't too happy about some of the exclusive content that will ship with game's upcoming collector's edition of The Taken King Expansion. The collector's edition includes the base Destiny game, the game's first two expansions and The Taken King. It will also come with exclusive shaders, emotes and gear for each class. All this, for $80.

See the problem yet? Many Destiny veterans have already purchased the game's two previous expansions. They don't want to shell out $80 for another copy of the game and two expansions they already own, just to get a few new in game items and emotes. But they will likely shell out the $80 anyways, just so they can have access to every piece of gear in the game.

While veteran players who have already purchased the two previous expansions or reached light level 30 ahead of The Taken King's release will receive some exclusive "VIP" bonuses (a sparrow, shader and emblem) upon purchasing any form of the game's third expansion pack, many year one Destiny players feel like they are getting the short end of the stick.

Not to worry, says Bungie community manager David "Deej" Dague. In a statement to Forbes, Deej had this to say about the current community controversy:

"Year One players won't get the same perks as people who buy a collector's edition. They'll get something better. Tune into the Weekly Update for more."

He went on to elaborate slightly more in a post on the Bungie forums, where he says once again for players to wait for the Destiny weekly update in a few days to learn more.

"I understand that you want me to go on record right now with something that will address the disappointment that's being expressed here," Deej writes. "I'm going to defer to the Bungie Weekly Update, in which we'll talk more about the things we're doing to celebrate the year-one Guardians who helped us build this community. I'll also revisit our goals in offering different versions of The Taken King," he continued. "Ever heard the old adage about trying to please everyone?"

It sounds like those who have been playing Destiny from the beginning will have something substantial to look forward to in the coming weeks. What will it be? New emotes? Shaders? Exclusive gear? Hard to say for sure, but Bungie definitely knows they have wronged the community and are looking for a way to make things right. Expect details on how exactly the developer plans to do that later this week.
