Ant-Man isn't due to come until July 17, but if you simply just can't wait until then to find out what Marvel has done to Scott Lang's story, you can check out the studio's Japanese trailer for the film.
By this time, anyone interested already has more or less a grasp of what will happen in Ant-man. As such, the trailer devotes less time showing the superhero in action, instead choosing to spend more time setting up who Scott Lang is.
Essentially, Scott Lang, played by Paul Rudd, just got out of prison. His ex-wife Peggy Rae has custody of their daughter Cassie. He's working in Baskin' Robbins. He's not free to see his little girl whenever she wants. He wants his life back but mostly he wants to get it together because Cassie is sick. It's actually in trying to do something about Cassie's condition that Scott Lang finds himself meeting Hank Pym, the creator of the Ant-man suit.
And from there, the rest, as they say, is history.
Aside from Scott Lang's side of the movie, the trailer also showed a few scenes that have not been seen in previously released footage, like Ant-Man and Yellow Jacket's fight atop an iPhone. Many parts of the trailer are expanded sequences from scenes already shown to American audiences but just how these sequences were brought together to basically sum up what's going to happen in the movie is highly impressive.
Won't releasing a trailer that pretty much tells the story of a film ruin the experience for movie-goers? Not necessarily (which is also an impressive feat) most especially to the untrained eye. Watch the trailer again after catching the movie though and some scenes might blow you away at how crucial they were to the story. The Japanese at least won't have trouble with the trailer because it was made with them in mind, and they like their trailers this way.
Corey Stoll joins Rudd in the cast as Darren Cross/Yellow Jacket while Michael Douglas will be playing Hank Pym. Other cast members include: Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne; Bobby Canavale as Paxton; David Dastmalchian as Kurt; Michael Pena as Luis; and T.I. as Dave. Peyton Reed is on-board as director.
