Thor: Ragnarok will be the third solo outing for Asgardian prince and god of thunder. The first two aren't much to talk about, but maybe Kenneth Branagh can breathe new life into the character.

Branagh is the first director to take a shot at Thor with the first film, and to-date, it is the better of the two. Because of this, it would definitely make sense for Marvel to court the director again for Ragnarok, and it might just happen.

According to Umberto Gonzalez, also known as El Mayimbe, while speaking with Popcorn Talk, Marvel is hoping to get the director onboard for this project, but it is not yet certain if the studio has succeeded. It might not happen though since it is possible Branagh would be too busy to get the film underway in order to meet the November 2017 release date.

"I was hearing that Marvel wanted Kenneth Branagh back for Thor 3," says Gonzalez. "But, he just got an offer to direct Murder on the Orient Express at Fox. So, I don't know if it is going to happen or not. They're thinking about bringing him back into the fold."

We hope Marvel comes out swinging with Thor 3 because the first two were disappointments, the second one more so than the first. It is full time for Marvel to do justice with Thor since his stories have the potential to take the Marvel Cinematic Universe into interesting places.

Fans have become tired of Thor on Earth and would rather a movie where everything takes place on Asgard. The writers should bear in mind that every Marvel film apart from Guardians of the Galaxy, focuses a lot on some form of evil that might threaten Earth.

We've seen this too many times, and thus a change could be the very thing to bring Thor from the brink of obscurity.

If Marvel cannot get its hands on Branagh to get the job done, then it needs to move quickly and land a great director before he or she is no longer available to take the position.
