After nearly a year since the first trailer for Sunset Overdrive, Insomniac Games has finally released a gameplay trailer showcasing what Xbox One owners should expect. It's a game Insomniac has always wanted to create for the last 20 years; it's also a game the developer is hoping to bring it back to winning form.

Sunset Overdrive is set in the year 2027; everything was going fine and dandy until one day a mega corporation that goes by the name Fizzco, released a drink called Overcharge Delirium XT. Apparently, folks who drink this can soda will transform into monsters, who end up terrorizing the city. As you might expect, it is your job to take these monsters out and put an end to Fizzco.

The new gameplay trailer highlights monsters that are pink in color and have an uncanny resemblance to the aliens from the Resistance games. Furthermore, Sunset Overdrive reminds us a lot of the Dead Rising series.

There are so many similarities, which makes us wonder if Insomniac took some ideas from the series and place them in its new game. But that's not a problem since Insomniac is the developer of both games.

What sets Sunset Overdrive apart though is its gameplay mechanics. Players will have the ability to wall run much like Titanfall. Even the ability to swing on power lines while shooting enemies in the face, all at the same time.

The whole thing looks wonderful in action, but what really caught our attention was the weapons. You see, Sunset Overdrive would not have been an Insomniac game without all the crazy over the top weapons available to the player. Our favorite so far is the TNTeddy, which is a weapon with a bomb strapped to a teddy bear. When it goes boom, the smoke from the explosion morphs into the image of a teddy bear.

From what we've seen, Insomniac seems to be on the right track with Sunset Overdrive. The developer is allowing players to customize their character in whatever human form they wish, along with giving players the option to traverse a huge open world.

The game looks wonderful, and we hope to learn more when Microsoft's E3 press conference begins on June 9.
